Matthew gets glasses

We took the boys in together for their physical...when am I going to learn that one at a time is way better?! The boys are doing their vision test and Matthew can't read the letters. Hunter's over trying to feed him the answer's, what chaos! So then we go in to get their check-ups and it turns out they had to get a vaccine that I wasn't aware of. Apparently there's a new chicken pox vaccine booster that the state of FL requires for them to go back to school so we didn't really have an option on this. So Hunter was okay to go first and didn't really freak out or cry and just said "that didn't hurt Matt". So then it's Matthew's turn....he's already tried escaping the room several times just upon hearing the word vaccine...so it took 3 full grown adults and the nurse to hold him down and give him this shot. I'm sure people all across town could hear him screaming and crying...I was sweating like a crazy person and had to wrap my arms and legs around him while Sean and the doctor helped me to hold him down. And then after all that, Hunter started crying thinking we were abusing his brother. UGH! If ever a person has a needle phobia, I'm thinking Matthew is one! Anyway, turns out he couldn't see anything from the eye test really so they sent us to a specialist. Yep, he's pretty blind alright. They gave Sean something to look through so he could see the way Matthew sees and he couldn't believe that Matthew hadn't complained before. So we got him some glasses and he looks so cute! Now Hunter swears he needs glasses too. When Matthew got his glasses the first day he came home and I said "so, do you see the world in a whole new way" and he just looked at me so serious and said "who are you and where am I?" Then he took the glasses off and said "oh, hi mom...oh, I'm at home...I couldn't recognize anything". ha! He's such a little nut!

Party time...or not...

We had planned a birthday party for Matthew and Hunter together on Friday 10/10. Well, all was going great until Hunter walked in from school. He said "I don't feel so good" so we had him lay down a bit and the next thing you know...the puking started. What terrible timing huh? 2 hours before his party he gets sick...I couldn't believe it! And I couldn't exactly cancel the party because 1) we had 40 kids coming and 2) Matthew could still make it to the party. So we decided to go ahead and have the party and leave poor Hunter at home. He was so upset at first but then he said "will I still get presents" and when we told him of course he would...he was totally fine with being home in bed. I guess I should mention that he was really sad to miss going to play with his friends too...the place we have their party is so much fun. But Hunter wasn't the only one to miss the party, a couple of other friends were sick and one of their other little friends fell and hit her head about 15 minutes into the party and had to leave to go to Urgent Care. Overall it was a good party, but I hated all the mishaps along the way. We promised to take those kids back that had missed the party, and they even gave Hunter a free pass to come one day, but we haven't made it back yet. I keep telling Hunter we will go though, I'm surprised he hasn't held me to it yet. It was so pitiful to see him so miserable though, and all his little friends were so disappointed. I think this event might have ended our big birthday bashes and we'll maybe stick to smaller individual parties next time so we could actually cancel and reschedule for something like this....of course I hope this NEVER happens again but with our record, I'm sure it will. Not being pessimistic, just real.

Storms rolling by...

We just happened to walk out front one day and this is what we saw. Tell me that's not an odd site?! FL does have some serious storms for sure. The great part is that it lasts about 30 minutes and then you go out to total sunshine and rainbows galore! I've seen more rainbows since I've moved to FL than I have my entire life. I'll be sure to get a picture next time of the happy rainbows rather than the scary storms. Hunter was a little freaked out by these clouds and while I was out taking pictures I think he thought a twister was going to just come take me away. I'm not ever sure we got any rain with these clouds though...they blew over just as fast as they showed up.

Cocoa Beach Bums

It's a tough life but someone has to live it right? So we had to spend yet another day at the beach. Hey, that was one of the major perks to moving here so we've gotta take advantage of it!
It's so nice to go to the beach because the kids will literally sit and play in the sand the entire day. Sean and I just get to sit and relax...it doesn't get much better! Unless of course we won the lottery and could sit on our deck and see the ocean...but we won't be greedy, we'll settle for a short drive to the beach. ha!

Hollywood Studios

We hadn't been to Disney in a while (for us anyway) and so we decided to go to Hollywood Studios for the day. Makenzie ended up going with us hoping that we would ride the Rockin' Roller coaster...which of course we did! We couldn't get any of them to go on the Tower of Terror, but Hunter and Sean went on the Great Movie Ride and of course we couldn't leave without doing the Star Tours (Star Wars) ride. The kids decided this time to go to the Disney art school to learn to draw a character as well. Of all the characters they each hoped for, not a chance that's what we got to learn. We got to draw Tink. I thought the boys would complain and want to leave right away, but they went right along with it. They LOVE to draw so I guess it didn't really matter if there was a chance at landing a job doing art for Disney one day. ha! I wish I could figure a way to scan the pictures and post them because all 3 kids did an amazing job! Mine of course looked more like an alien than a fairy, but I'm not claiming to be one that can draw...there's good reason why I went to school for photography. Sean's looked like a real image of her...what a show off he is! He's a really good artist actually but he would never admit it to anyone. I guess that's where my boys get their talent as well...it certainly wasn't from me!

3 words that Matthew has been saying for a while...

BLUE MAN GROUP! He's been wanting to see this show since he first saw it advertised a couple of years ago. So for his birthday, that's what we did. I must say it was a very unique show and full of entertainment...it was a bit much for me but the kids really seemed to enjoy it. I'm not saying I didn't like it because I really did...but I would have preferred to go see some other calm show probably. This is definitely high energy and strange to say the least. At one point, which totally freaked me out by the way, they pulled paper over the entire audience and it just kept going and going and going until finally the roll was empty. Being claustrophobic I must say that I was borderline panic attack at one point. I kept breaking the paper off and the person behind me would just throw it right back on me...I didn't think it was ever going to end. The guys in the show were pretty cool though, I'm not sure how they kept such a serious face the entire time. I would recommend the show, but we had discounted tickets so it made it more of a worth your money kind of show. I think I might have been a little upset at paying $80+ per seat but at $45 a seat it was worth it.

School Skate Party

So this brings me up to 9-18-08....I've posted almost an entire year in one night, now why can't I do something like this on a normal basis? I guess because I like to procrastinate...not to mention it's cold out so I'm really sort of stuck inside anyway. ha!

This post is to share pictures of the school skate party. I know it's hard to tell by the way Hunter is hugging the wall in the picture, but this was his first time on skates. He did pretty good actually, but never made it a full loop around the rink. Matthew was an old pro of course, and just went out to have fun with his friends and left us in the dust. The kids all had a really good time and we (I say we because I was a part of the PTA that put the party together...my sister was the chair of the event) raised a lot of money for the school. We had a DJ, gave away door prizes and even 1 lucky kid won a pair of roller skates. I'm not so sure Hunter was a huge fan of skating but he did like just running around and seeing all of his friends so it all worked out.
